On May 31, the Portuguese Museum Association (Associação Portuguesa de Museologia — APOM) organized, in Porto, Portugal, its annual award ceremony. In the presence of an audience of museologists, the European Museum Academy was granted the award in the category of International Organisation.

Hosted by the Congress Center of the City Porto, APOM 2024, in its usual festive atmosphere, called on to the stage 86 museum experts that, individually or representing their institutions, won the twenty-seven categories of awards and honourable mentions.
Created in 1994, to honour museums and their professionals in various fields, the APOM Awards are one of the most emblematic initiatives of the Association. APOM rightly claims this annual gathering to be a special moment for museum professionals to meet and share experiences, projects and expectations.
These Awards are granted by the Board of Directors and a jury made up of members of the Governing Bodies, experienced professionals in the museum sector that evaluate proposals coming from all over the country in areas such as Projects and Digital Contents; Marketing and Communication; School Activity; Academic Project on Museology; Partnership; International Organisation; Safeguarding, Conservation and Restoration; Education and Cultural Mediation Project; Incorporation; Scientific Research and Dissemination; Museography; Media/Journalism; Heritage photography; Photograher; Conferences; Collector; Visitable Collection; Catalogue; Publications; Sponsor; Professional Merit in the field of Museology; Career; Temporary Exhibition; International Project; International Cooperation; Institution; Museum of the Year.

In some categories, the jury decides even without an application. Such was the case of the Award granted to EMA, in the category of International Organisation, that was decided by APOM to honour the European Museu Academy, for its persistent work on the continuing development and innovation of museums.

The Award was received by the representative of EMA in Portugal, Emília Ferreira, director of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, in Lisbon.
