The National Gallery of the Republic of North Macedonia, established in 1948, was initiated by Macedonian art pioneers to address the cultural gaps created by historical events. Housed in the 15th-century Daut Pašin Amam, a restored Ottoman bathhouse, the Gallery began to collect, preserve, and display Macedonian art, including Medieval icons, frescoes, and contemporary works. Over the years, the institution has expanded its reach and facilities, adding the Čifte Amam for contemporary exhibitions, the Multimedia Center Mala Stanica for diverse cultural events, and the Memorial House of Lazar Ličenoski to honour the prominent Macedonian artist. The Gallery’s evolving collections now encompass Macedonian and international art, strongly emphasising historical and modern artistic achievements. It also collaborates with global cultural centres and regularly hosts significant international exhibitions.
