Founded in 1961, the Art Gallery “Nadežda Petrović” is a vibrant cultural institution dedicated to contemporary visual art and museological pursuits. Located in a historical building in Čačak, originally established in 1911 as a Women’s Workers’ School, the gallery has been a cornerstone of artistic engagement in the region since it was repurposed for its current role in 1965.
The gallery’s primary activities include organizing the biennial Nadežda Petrović Memorial, which is central to its programming. This event, alongside regular exhibitions such as Young, Awarded at the Memorials, Graphics, Recognition, Sonja’s September, and ChanceArt, highlights the dynamic range of contemporary visual art. The gallery features three main exhibition spaces: the Nadežda Petrović Memorial Room, the Risim Gallery, and the Sonja Savić Memorial Room.
The collection encompasses 64 works from the period between 1900 and 1950, focusing on paintings by Nadežda Petrović and her contemporaries. This includes artists who achieved creative maturity between the two World Wars and those whose work aligns closely with Petrović’s artistic vision.
With a commitment to both preserving and advancing the legacy of modern art, the Art Gallery “Nadežda Petrović” serves as a cultural hub that continues to foster artistic expression and appreciation.
