The Senjski Rudnik Coal Mining Museum in Serbia is a key cultural and industrial heritage site, highlighting the rich history of coal mining in the region. Established in 1980, the museum is located within a distinctive industrial landscape and features four main buildings: the administrative building above the Alexander mine, the machine shop, the Coal Mining Museum, and the export tower with a fully operational steam engine.
The museum, housed in an old central warehouse, offers a comprehensive view of coal mining history in Senjski Rudnik and Serbia. It showcases a range of artefacts, including digging tools, mining lamps, drilling equipment, mining machines, uniforms, and geological maps, providing visitors with a thorough understanding of mining’s evolution.
A standout feature is the operational steam engine from 1872, transferred to Senjski Rudnik in 1922 from the Vrdnik mine. This steam-powered mining lift, still functioning in Europe, can transport workers 150 meters underground without electricity. The museum offers a unique look at past technological innovations and the legacy of coal mining in the region.
