Swiss Finance Museum
The Swiss Finance Museum in Zurich explores the history and workings of the financial system through interactive exhibitions that connect economic history with modern innovation.

The Swiss Finance Museum in Zurich is the first and only museum in Switzerland dedicated to explaining the world of finance and the stock market. Opened in 2017, it offers an introduction to the origins of the modern economic system and to how the financial sector influences daily life. Through interactive media, historical documents, and contemporary analysis, the museum shows how financial markets have developed and how they continue to shape society today.
The permanent exhibition traces the evolution of the financial economy from the 16th century to the present. It features rare historical securities from one of the world’s largest collections, alongside films, interviews, and interactive displays that explore how shares are traded, how companies are founded, and how innovations like digital banking have changed the way money moves.
The museum also presents regularly changing special exhibitions. Recent topics have included Sports & Money, which looked at the economic dimensions of sport in Switzerland, and art.power(s).wealth, which examines the connections between art and finance, from investment to market regulation. These exhibitions combine economic insight with cultural context, showing the multiple ways money interacts with other parts of life.
By making complex financial systems accessible through engaging design and research-based storytelling, the Swiss Finance Museum provides an entry point to understanding both Switzerland’s financial heritage and its role in the global economy.
