MO Museum
The MO Museum in Vilnius is a dynamic cultural hub showcasing modern and contemporary Lithuanian art, combining world-class exhibitions with community programmes that make art accessible to all.

The MO Museum, located in the heart of Vilnius, is a contemporary art museum dedicated to modern and contemporary Lithuanian culture. Opened in 2018, MO was founded by scientists and philanthropists Danguolė and Viktoras Butkus to make art accessible and engaging for everyone. The building, designed by renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, has quickly become an architectural landmark and a welcoming cultural hub for the city.
At its core, the MO Museum holds a rich collection of more than 6,000 works by Lithuanian artists from the 1950s to today. Its exhibitions reveal how art reflects the country’s shifting cultural, social and political landscapes, inviting visitors to see Lithuanian history and identity through the eyes of artists.
MO is known for its dynamic and inclusive approach to curation. Alongside its permanent collection, the museum presents changing exhibitions, installations and events that connect local art with global ideas. Its exhibitions often highlight the voices of artists who challenged conventions and explored freedom of expression during Soviet times, as well as contemporary creators who address today’s pressing cultural and social themes.
Beyond its galleries, the MO Museum is deeply committed to community involvement and cultural education. It runs a wide range of programmes for children, young people, families and schools, creating opportunities for creative learning and dialogue. Its lively calendar of film screenings, concerts, talks and festivals makes MO a meeting place where art and everyday life come together.
As a nominee for the European Museum Academy’s Luigi Micheletti Award, the MO Museum stands out for its vision of a modern museum that combines high-quality exhibitions with openness, curiosity and a genuine wish to bring people closer to art. It shows how contemporary museums can be inspiring spaces where everyone feels invited to look, think and take part.
