Buzău County Museum
The Buzău County Museum is a cultural institution that preserves and interprets the region’s rich heritage through its archaeological, historical, and artistic collections, alongside its ongoing research and publications.

The Buzău County Museum in Romania serves as the principal museum institution in Buzău County. Its roots were laid by Basil Iorgulescu, and the successive growth of its collections has marked several important phases of expansion.
Housed in the former girls’ normal high school, constructed between 1931 and 1937 and now a listed historic monument in Buzău County, the museum occupies a building rich in heritage in its own right.
The institution is organised into three core departments: Archaeology, History and Memorialistics, and Plastic Art. It also manages four external collection sites, one within Buzău city and others located in the villages of Colți, Măgura, and Pârscov.
The museum maintains scholarly activities: it has published a dedicated series of books titled Biblioteca Mousaios, two annual scientific journals, Mousaios and Annals of Buzăului, as well as catalogues and monographs that reflect its ongoing research.
By intertwining local heritage with scholarly endeavour, the Buzău County Museum positions itself not just as a repository of objects, but as a dynamic cultural institution that invites exploration of the region’s past and its continuing relevance to present-day cultural identity.
