A European Museum Expertise Foundation
A dynamic and forward-looking organisation to stimulate innovative thinking in European museums
Dear Members and Friends of the European Museum Academy,
We are happy to welcome you to the latest edition of our newsletter. As autumn unfolds, we are excited to share some updates with you. First, we are delighted to announce the relaunch of the Master Study of the Year Award. This prestigious award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of master’s students who have completed and submitted their theses. We look forward to celebrating their outstanding contributions.
As part of this celebration, we had the privilege of conducting an interview with the last award winner, providing a unique insight into their exceptional research and passion for the field. We encourage you to read their story.
We are equally thrilled to announce the successful completion of presenting the 2023 EMA Awards. It was an inspiring journey, and we’re grateful to everyone who took part. Stay tuned, as a new call for applications will be out soon, providing further opportunities to recognise and honour the outstanding achievements of European museums.
The Children in Museums Award has also just been announced, and you will find the Judges’ Report on our website as we celebrate museums that go above and beyond in engaging the youngest members of our community.
Lastly, we are proud to feature the Erasmus Mundus Master Programme led by Glasgow University. This programme is open to students from Europe and the whole world, embracing global talent and expertise. We encourage you to spread the word and make this opportunity known to aspiring museum professionals.
Enjoy reading!
Warm regards,
Karl B. Murr
Chairman of the Board
WIM VAN DER WEIDEN
Today we – the European Museum Academy family – bid farewell to our beloved friend, colleague, one of the EMA founder and mentor Wim van der Weiden.
Wim was a distinguished personality in the European museum world, an expert, a stimulating, humorous, communicative museum man, with clear opinions, full of empathy, a connector, who detested pomposity and snobbery, and was inspired by innate curiosity and simplicity.
Wim, your work will be continued, in your spirit, but we will dearly miss you.
