“Toys are becoming alive”

The founder of İstanbul Toy Museum Mr. Sunay Akın who is also a writer says: “While we were building the museum 13 years ago, we have thought every room as a theater scene; we wanted the visitors to feel themselves inside a play. Many years later this design has become real with this performance and the actors. We always get the question of “Are these toys become alive at night?” and with this play Helikon, the answer for this question is “Yes, they are…”

The director of Helikon, Mr Ali Ozan Akın said that he first met Venue Theater in New York City where he also got an education as a director. He said “The mansion of İstanbul Toy Museum was a very ruined house in the 80’s and called as a haunted mansion. The root of the word museum comes from the god of art and light Apollo, who lives in the Mountain Helikon with Muses. This mansion that used to be known as a haunted mansion is now hosting the Muses of inspiration.”

Theater in the museum is now promising a new excitement.

This venue theater written by Ali Ozan Akın and Mehmet Erbil takes the name Helikon from the nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne; Calliope (epic poetry), Clio (history), Euterpe (flutes and lyric poetry), Thalia (comedy and pastoral poetry), Melpomene (tragedy), Terpsichore (dance), Erato (love poetry), Polyhymnia (sacred poetry), and Urania (astronomy). The performance takes place in nine rooms inside İstanbul Toy Museum, each room represents a Muse and also a toy displays in the museum.
